Part 5 of 5: Our Atomic Blueprint for Growth
"The greatest ideas are the simplest." — William Golding.
In this final post on the Golden Ratio (see earlier parts), I return to where I started. The Golden Ratio (1.618, or φ) is constant that unlocks growth of the cosmos, oceans, plants and human beings, by providing nature with the ultimate blueprint for efficiency.
But what if the Golden Ratio also forms a Golden Triangle for human psyche—giving us a precise combination of three core values that unlock our potential?
The Three Core Values: Our Foundation, Fuel, and Future

The following three values I believe are universal and form the blueprint for unlocking our potential.
1. Integrity: The Foundation (The Neutron)
In an atom, the neutron sits in the nucleus, providing the gravitational mass that holds everything together. It is the anchor.
- The Demand: Integrity demands our soul, mind, and body are never divided.
- The Blueprint: Truth is the glue that unites our inner and outer world—our word is our bond.
2. Compassion: The Fuel (The Proton)
Protons live in the nucleus alongside neutrons, carrying the positive charge that binds the atom's core and drives its energy forward.
- The Demand: Compassion demands we are never cruel—to ourselves or to others—but caring, honest, and kind.
- The Blueprint: True power isn't cold. By fusing our ambition with genuine care for ourselves and the world, we create the positive energy required to sustain long-term growth.
3. Vision: The Future (The Electron)
Electrons orbit the nucleus at incredible speeds. They are dynamic, light, and responsible for creating bonds with the outside world. They represent movement and future possibilities.
- The Demand: Vision demands we never drift.
- The Blueprint: With our insight, we see our three core values, our dreams, and our destination—our inner world creates our outer reality.
The Ancient and Modern Clues to the "Constant"
Nothing in nature is accidental; it is governed by fundamental laws. When we look at ancient spiritual and modern wisdom, they point to the same insight: success has a fixed, unchanging blueprint.
The Wisdom of the Tao
Over 2,400 years ago, the ancient Chinese text, the Tao Te Ching, offered a stark warning and a profound thought that 'To know the constant is called insight':
'To return to the root is to find peace. To find peace is to fulfil one’s destiny. To fulfil one’s destiny is to become constant. To know the constant is called insight. Not knowing this cycle leads to eternal disaster. Knowing the constant gives perspective.'
For centuries, people have asked: What is the constant? The insight is this: The constant is the Golden Triangle of our core values. Knowing the core values that we need to keep constant— Integrity is our Foundation, Compassion is our Fuel, and Vision creates our future—is true insight.
When the Tao warns that "not knowing this cycle leads to eternal disaster," it aligns perfectly with the laws of nature. If a plant deviates from the Golden Ratio, its growth fails. Similarly, having other core values, or a combination of others, will lead to disaster because we are breaking the fundamental laws of growth.
Finding Our True North
Fast forward to the modern era. In his landmark leadership book True North, former Medtronic CEO Bill George wrote:
"Your True North represents who you are at your deepest level. It is your fixed point in a spinning world—an internal compass, guided by your core values."
Whether you call it the "Constant" of the Tao or the "True North" of modern leadership, the message is identical. In a spinning, chaotic world, we cannot rely on external circumstances to guide us. We need a fixed point. Our Golden Triangle is that fixed point.
Reversing the Equation of Destiny
The world renowned and famous Mahatma Gandhi, wrote:
"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny."
I believe the values that become our destiny, referred to by Gandhi, are the core values of Integrity, Compassion and Vision. These remain constant. To unlock the wisdom and insight contained in the quote, and make it plain, we need to completely reverse it.
When we flip the equation, the path to creating our destiny become clear; it starts with choosing our three core values:
Your destiny becomes your values, your values become your habits, your habits become your actions, your actions become your words, your words become your thoughts, your thoughts become your beliefs.

Having chosen consciously, established, and defined our core values, they immediately dictate our daily Habits, which drive our Actions. Our actions align with our Words, our words become our Thoughts, and our thoughts solidify into our Beliefs about who we are. With out Golden Ratio, our Golden Triangle, our constant in hand, we know where to start and how to grow in the most efficient and stable way.
The Path to SelfPower
Nothing in nature is accidental. We were not meant to drift through life hoping to stumble upon our potential.
By recognising that Integrity, Compassion, and Vision form the blueprint for enduring success, and geometric balance within us, we align ourself with the same laws that govern the universe. We find our True North. We come to know the Constant.
This insight holds the key to unlocking our Path to SelfPower.
Over to you: Which side of your Golden Triangle needs the most focus today? Are you strengthening your foundation, fuelling your compassion, or sharpening your future insight?
