Part 2 of 5: The Golden Ratio: Revealing Secret 1 — How to Unlock Our Destiny
The legendary writer and philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson, said:
"The greatest success is to remain yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else."
How can we remain ourselves if we do not know who we are?
The Nautilus pompilius is a marine creature that has remained unchanged for millions of years in world that is constantly trying to change it. As it grows, its body gets too big for its current shell chamber. It must build a new, larger chamber to live in.
- The Constant (1.61)): Every single new chamber the nautilus builds is exactly 1.618 times larger than the one before it.
- The Logarithmic Spiral: Because it uses this precise mathematical ratio, the shell grows in a flawless, proportional spiral.
- Preserving Its Identity: Even though the shell becomes larger, the geometric shape never changes, and its centre of gravity remains in the exact same spot. It expands into the universe without ever losing its balance or forgetting its origin.
As the world constantly changes and tries to make us something we are not, we must know exactly who we are. Without this clarity, we risk spiralling out of control, growing larger while losing our core, and becoming mere passengers in our own lives.
In his landmark leadership book True North, former Medtronic CEO Bill George, wrote:
"Your True North represents who you are at your deepest level. It is your fixed point in a spinning world—a internal compass, guided by your core values."
The world renowned and famous Mahatma Gandhi, also wrote:
"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny."
Jim Collins discovered that the world's most enduring companies do not succeed because of market trends; they succeed because they have a permanent inner core:
''The only truly reliable source of stability is a strong inner core and the willingness to change and adapt everything except that core."
I believe the quotes above demonstrate that there is a Golden Ratio—one that points to constant, unchangeable core values. This constant provides every human being with an internal compass, a True North, stability, strength, and success. These foundational constants have remained, and will continue to endure, completely unchanged throughout the history of human civilisation.
The Golden Ratio Secret 1: Integrity — The Nuclear Glue of the Soul
I have identified our Golden Ratio forms our Golden Triangle - which contains our three universal core values that anchor our soul. We must possess the willingness to change and adapt everything in our lives, except these three core values.
The first, most important, and foundational value is Integrity. I believe we can visualise our soul as the nucleus of the atom (our being), where the neutron represents Integrity. The remaining two core values, represented by the proton and the electron, are ones I will share in my upcoming blog post.
- Integrity: The Foundation—It comes from the Latin word integer, which means "whole," "complete," or "undivided.
The core meaning:
- Wholeness: We are the same person when we are alone and when the entire world is watching. Our soul, mind and body are united.
- Consistency: Our actions match our words, and our words match our thoughts. Our word is our bond.
- Truth over Comfort: We choose to do what is right over what is convenient. Our number one internal and external character trait is truth.
The Neutron is Integrity (The Neutral Anchor):
Neutrons carry no electrical charge. They sit at the very centre of the nucleus. Their ultimate purpose is to provide mass, stability, and act as the "nuclear glue" holding everything together. Without neutrons, the positive forces in the nucleus would violently repel one another, and the atom (our being) would instantly rip itself apart from the inside out.
This is exactly what Integrity does—it carries no personal ego or selfish motive. It is the neutral, unshakeable truth that holds our soul, and therefore our entire being, together.
When we lose our integrity, the delicate balance of our internal nucleus collapses. Just like an atom undergoing fission, our outer life—our being—fractures and detaches from our soul. Without that central 'nuclear glue' of our integrity, we become highly unstable, volatile, and dangerous to ourselves and others.
When our integrity collapses and our being fractures from our soul, our mind splits. Our deep wounds, fears, and survival mechanisms become the default and operate completely unconsciously.
Because this collapse of integrity is hidden from our sight, to save us from heartbreak, our brain defaults to Autopilot. The Autopilot does the best it can, but we begin developing unproductive habits, become emotionally unstable, and struggle to reconnect or build relationships with ourselves and others. We become dissociative, hypervigillant, fearful, and reactive—completely unaware that this is because our fractured nucleus is operating from a trust deficit and fear mindset, feeling utterly powerless. On the inside, we feel, 'There is something wrong with me,' or 'I am broken,' or 'That's just my luck,' or 'That's just my fate.'
These feelings are symbols and signs—the red flags and warning lights sending a message to our soul that our destiny is at risk—and our soul shouting to us to 'Ask for help.' We need to heed that warning, listen to our inner voice, and hear the cry of our soul seeking to save us.
A house divided against itself cannot stand. In these moments, we need to ask for help. Not just from anyone, but from the right person who truly understands what is going on. Someone who will tell us the truth, no matter how difficult, but with care and compassion—revealing that we are out of alignment, and helping us find our internal compass and our integrity once again.
