Part 1 of 5: The Golden Ratio: The Secret Constant That Unlocks True Insight

I want to do a post doing a deep dive on what is constant. The idea I have follows from my previous post, in which I learned from the Tao—a 2,400-year-old wisdom—that to know the constant is called insight. I want to understand what the constant is.

I have a deep passion for science, and believe that the way my body is designed and functions, and how nature functions and solves problems, it must be using insight to achieve the outcomes that it does. For that to happen, it means it must be using constants. I have always been fascinated by how there are constants in nature. 

The Golden Ratio (1.618, or φ) supports growth by providing nature with the ultimate blueprint for efficiency. In mathematics, nature, and art, the Golden Ratio represents perfect balance, harmony, and beautiful growth. It is the exact pattern found in the spiral of galaxies, the growth of sunflowers, and classical architecture.

In biology, growth requires packing as many leaves, seeds, or cells into the smallest space possible without overcrowding. The Golden Ratio is the only mathematical constant that prevents parts from overlapping, ensuring optimal resource distribution, and therefore growth and the unlocking of potential.

As a plant grows taller, it must sprout new leaves around its stem. If a plant sprouted leaves at simple angles like 90° or 180°, the upper leaves would perfectly block the lower leaves from getting sunlight and catching raindrops.

To solve this, plants grow new leaves at an angle of roughly 137.5°. This is known as the Golden Angle, derived directly by dividing a full circle (360°) by the Golden Ratio. Because 137.5° is an irrational fraction of a circle, no two leaves will ever grow directly on top of each other. Every single new leaf gets its own window to maximise photosynthesis and channel rainwater down to the roots.

Reflecting on this, it shows me that to unlock the power of the constant, it is not enough for something to be done repeatedly. For example, the plant sprouting leaves at a simple 90° or 180°—while that would be a constant, because it is not the correct constant to use, the insight, it leads to death for the plant. Or, as the Tao puts it beautifully: “Not knowing this cycle leads to eternal disaster.”

On the other hand, when the correct constant is found—in this case, 137.5 degrees—the plant can use that blueprint forever, following the Tao wisdom from over 2,400 years ago:

“To return to the root is to find peace. To find peace is to fulfil one’s destiny. To fulfill one’s destiny is to become constant. To know the constant is called insight. Not knowing this cycle leads to eternal disaster. Knowing the constant gives perspective. This perspective is impartial. Impartiality is the highest nobility. The highest nobility is Divine. Being Divine you will be at one with the Tao. Being at one with the Tao is eternal. This way is everlasting. Not endangered by physical death.”

What I notice, therefore, is that for me to unlock my Path to Self-Power, I need to unlock the power of the constant. But how do we take this mathematical law of nature and apply it to learning how to heal from our trauma, learn to thrive and unlock our potential?
